Escaping the Comfort Zone

Welcome to another Cardmaker Blog team hop!  The theme is Escaping the Comfort Zone. Create a card that is a departure from your norm such as no stamping, no layers, etc.

Whew! This one was really tough for me.  I don't do one style ALL of the time. I tend to make different styles of cards because I get bored easily.  So, I had to think about the things I use often on my cards--

A few of my favorite products that I use on most of my cards include: patterned paper, stamps, ink, baker's twine or ribbon.  I am also quite fond of layers (at least two of them anyway!)

So for this card--I went without.  No patterned paper, no stamps, no ink, no ribbons or twine, no layers--

So here is my one layer card made entirely out of....STICKERS! That is it.

And sure I love stickers...but I HAD to use something on the card, right?

Supplies:  Shape Stickers- Sidewalks (October Afternoon); Clear stickers--Sticker Sentiments: Thank You, We've Got Your Border-Birthday (SRM Stickers).

I CANNOT wait to see what these gals did with this challenging challenge:

Dream Tag

School starts for my kids on Tuesday.  I am holding tight to these last few days of summer vacation.  I am also school shopping, doing the routine doctor appts, dentist appts, etc.

One of the other things I wanted to do was to make my oldest daughter a special note for her lunch.  She will be in 11th grade this year and last year was her first year in this school because we moved just prior to her sophomore year.  I sent her notes everyday in her lunch and sometimes I included a drawing, a funny comment or something she could hang in her locker to remind her how awesome she is.  I knew how hard it was for her to be the new girl and I wanted to give her something to laugh at or smile at in the middle of her day.

This year, I made this tag to stick in her lunch.  It is something she can use as a bookmark or to stick on the inside of her locker.  She LOVES giraffes so when I saw this new set from My Favorite Things called Circus Spectacular, I KNEW I had to have it just to make a million giraffe notes for her :)

I paired this set with the fabulous sentiment set called, My Favorite Sentiments 6th Anniversary Set.  LOVE this set!

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great day!

Travel Gift Idea

Since my husband and I "gifted" each other a Hawaiian vacation for our anniversary this year...I was inspired to created a fun way to present a travel gift.
Here is my gift idea...

I used a Silhouette file to make the airplane and added some SRM stickers to the plane...."relax" "unwind" and "dream".  I attached the plane to the tube by using a stick pin.  The top of the pin in threaded through the airplane base and then I pushed it through the lid of the tube.  I put some foam tape on the inside of the tube lid to anchor the pin.   The plane actually tilts back and forth :)

I covered the bottom of the Mini tube with black vinyl that I die cut into building shapes using My Favorite Things Die-Namics Skyline Border die.  I added the "adventure" sticker along the tube and filled the tube with the travel information.  This concept would work well with concert tickets, amusement park tickets, etc.  Simply change out the topper to reflect what is inside :)
SRM products used:
Express Yourself Retirement #42005
Express Yourself Everyday Boy #42040
Mini tube

Hello! Happy Monday!  This week we are getting ready for school (which begins next week)!  Lots of school shopping and lots of butterflies! Yipes! I am actually sad to see the kids go back to school. (I might be in the minority here!)

Heart (in the middle of the sun) from Stickers by the Dozen: Valentines
Part of "You are my" Sunshine sentiment (Sticker Sentiments: Summer)
Border along bottom and along the top to suggest a string that the birds are carrying (We've Got Your Border: Birthday)
Baker's twine- blossom (The Twinery)
Patterned paper is by Echo Park paper.

Today the design team is using the new Stamp TV kit--Sun Kissed Autumn and  Fall Foliage (One free with 3! set) on our projects.   Here is my card using Sun Kissed Autumn:
I kid you not---there are a bazillion stamps in this Stamp TV kit. (Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration!)  I totally was losing my mind just trying to pick a few of them to use on my card for today.  I ended up using 6--- the row of trees, the owl, the sentiment and three line art leaves that I stamped randomly in the background.  And...there are so many more stamps.

Today the team is showing some designs using the new sets: American Made, Lighthearted Wishes and Stippled Nature.

Here are my cards for today:

American Made-
I love the awesome labels in this set.  I used my distress inks to stamp the label and sentiments for this masculine father's day card.
Sorry!  IMAGE REMOVED - WILL RETURN SOON!

Lighthearted Wishes-

I know I will be using this adorable light bulb and sentiment from this set often.  Extra fun---pairing the light bulb from this set with the fun background design (from the American Made set).  LOVE!

 Stippled Nature:

This set is adorable and I have lots of ideas for it.  For today's card, I used my Scor-Pal to score the base of the card and then stamped the sweet bird in each square. leaving the last square for the sentiment.

Canvas Calendar

I just got back home from a lovely week at the beach with my kids.  Oh what fun we had...but when we left it finally hit me that our summer is coming to an end.  So sad:(  I definitely have a hard time facing that fact at the end of every summer break.
Last week I had a few projects featured on other blogs.  Here is a canvas calendar I shared on the SRM Stickers blog:

When I saw the new 2013 calendar stickers by SRM, I decided to make a desk calendar. I painted a canvas and then stamped the stamp (Pretty Girl- Suzi Blu by Stampavie) and then paper pieced and painted her. I added the 2013 sticker from Year of Memories 2013 (SRM Stickers). I created a little section to display the calendar month stickers. I mounted each sticker on some ivory cardstock and then cut them out and used a Cropadile to punch a small hole in the top of each one. I used a nail to attach the calender months through the canvas to the wooden back so that they were secure. Each month you just change the month and you have the month ahead at a glance.

Hope you like it!  I will be back tomorrow to share some new Gina K with you!

Inspiration Revisited

I have a hard time making cards/scrapbook pages while watching the Olympics.  Since I have tons of fabric remnants sitting in a drawer, I thought I would revisit a Moxie Fab challenge from months ago because it was so much fun to make one of these little houses the first time.

Here is what I came up with this time:

Some of my hand stitching is not the best---had to pull out a seam more than once because I watching the Olympic coverage at the same time. Ha!

Supplies: Sticker sentiment- Shine Your Light (SRM Stickers)
Baker's twine- Marigold (The Twinery)
Dies- Homespun Birdhouse, Fresh Cut Grass (Dienamics- My Favorite Things)

Hope you have a great day! Thanks for stopping by!

Card Design Handbook

..a special issue from Paper Crafts Magazine is available now!!  I couldn't wait to see how this publication would turn out and I was not disappointed.
If you've ever wondered about the "rules" of design, you'll want this first-of-its-kind special issue. We'll show you how to creatively combine colors from all segments of the color wheel and explain basic design concepts like the rule of thirds. You'll also learn elements of different styles, from fun and cute to classy and elegant with everything in between. There are hundreds of project ideas using these design lessons so you can practice your new found skill on cards, bags, tags, wraps, home décor and more.
This issue is wonderful:

I am lucky enough to have two cards in this magazine.  Here is a peek at one of them:
